HOOD is a game (in beta) written in Godot, as my first project to learn game development. I started development around September 2024. Despite having extensive programming knowledge already, I'd never used GDScript or C#.
As you could probably tell, I'm inspired by DOOM. The mechanics are actually closer to Wolfenstein 3D, with there being only one type of ammo and lives, but everything else is rather DOOM-like (other than jumping, which I added purely because I like to bunny-hop).
It runs in glorious 320x200, so you likely won't have any performance issues, even with the worst of graphics cards. Or, rather, no graphics card at all!
This is HOOD running on a Pentium Dual Core E2200, with no graphics card. You heard me right, this is software rendering. While Godot doesn't officially support software rendering, the power of Linux allows you to do some sketchy things in the terminal, and viola!
Runs at 20fps, but still, it's playable!
Anywho, I hope you enjoy playing what HOOD is right now, and support future development. 3 episodes are planned, and this beta is about half of episode 1. I plan to open-source the game when I can be bothered to do so, therefore you all can mess around with the code and do what you like! In the meantime, enjoy the game!
